Team Side-Effects
Our team participated in the ICFP Programming Contest again this year. We've played in the past, always under different names, though we have two more members these days (Gregory Brown and Edward Livengood).
We had moderate success this year. We did manage to get the implementation running and made it to the sunshine picture, though we didn't really find the last of our bugs until the organizers released the data dump of the first ten iterations. We spent a good deal of effort optimizing our implementation and achieved acceptable speeds, at least by our standards.
Unfortunately, we couldn't figure out what the 1337 number encoding riddle wanted us to do. We never really got past that phase of the puzzle.
Our code was in Ruby and is available online. We hope that it is of help to some. Please let us know if you have any questions.
